And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7 KJV
It’s quite amazing to note that God made everything by just speaking. He spoke the words and everything came to existence.
The creation of man, however, is special. God, in His creative and magnificent power could have just spoken and man would exist. As simple as that! But He didn’t. Instead He formed man in His image from the dust of the ground, fashioned every parts of his body and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. And man became a living soul.
dust + breath of life = living soul [man]
What enables us to enjoy life and continue to exist is the God-given breath of life. Obviously, without it, we stop existing. Death could happen anytime, anywhere, to anyone and in many ways. Nobody is exempted.
There is one death that cannot be seen by our eyes.
A lot of people experience this death daily and unknowingly. Others are aware and yet they still ignore it.
Sin exhausts our life source. Not a few moments would pass without us committing sin. Therefore our life-giving power is drained. So we need a daily revival, we need the “breath of life“ that only God could impart. How do we receive this “breath of life“ then?
The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. John 6:63 NIV
The Word of God is the “breath of life.” His words gave existence to all living and non living things. His inspired words are the source of our spiritual strength. Reading God’s word daily will not only impart to us strength, but will also keep us from draining the life source. As the Lord said to Ezekiel,
4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’” Ezekiel 37:4-6
The word of God is able to revive “dry bones.” It is able to revive us. It is as essential to our soul as physical food is to our body.
Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”- John 5:39 KJV
